The Office of Defects Investigation at NHTSA (the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) has issued a recall for Hyundai / Tucson and Honda / Odyssey.
From NHTSA:
Make / models : Hyundai / Tucson
model/build years: 2005
Manufacturer : Hyundai Caribbean Puerto
Recall date : jul 27, 2005
Component: parking brake
Potential number of units affected : 330
Summary: On certain passenger vehicles, the parking lever ratchet pawl was not properly manufactured and may damage the teeth of the parking lever ratchet. Damaged parking brake lever ratchet teeth may prevent the parking brake from engaging or may allow the parking brake to release after it has been engaged.
Consequence: The inability to engage or the inadvertent release of the parking brake lever, may allow your vehicle to roll while it is parked and may result in a crash.
Remedy: Dealers will replace the parking brake lever assembly. The recall is expected to begin on august 15, 2005. Owners should contact Hyundai of Puerto Rico at 1-800-981-0188.
Notes: Hyundai of Puerto Rico recall no 071. Customers can also contact the national highway traffic safety administration’s vehicle safety hotline at 1-888-327-4236; (tty: 1-800-424-9153); or go to http://www.safercar.gov.
-------
Make / models : Honda / Odyssey
model/build years: 2005
Manufacturer : American Honda motor co.
Recall date : jul 28, 2005
Component: air bags: frontal: sensor/control module
Potential number of units affected : 85154
Summary: On certain mini vans, the frontal air bag system has two external impact sensors. Some sensors were insufficiently sealed during manufacturing. If water enters a sensor, corrosion can occur. Corroded sensors could short circuit internally. If sensors fail, the srs warning lamp on the instrument panel will turn on and remain illuminated.
Consequence: Front impact sensor failure could cause a delay in, or loss of, frontal air bag deployment, which can increase the risk of injury in a frontal crash.
Remedy: Dealers will replace the front impact sensors. The recall is expected to begin on august 29, 2005. Owners should contact Honda at 1-800-999-1009.
Notes: Honda recall no p80. Customers can also contact the national highway traffic safety administration’s vehicle safety hotline at 1-888-327-4236; (tty: 1-800-424-9153); or go to http://www.safercar.gov.
