I am trying to hook up a trailer towing controller on a 2005 2500HD. I
would like to know if there is a wire harness to wire to or if I need to
run wires to the battery and brakes.

There is a harness that plugs in close to the drivers feet, and then it is
an easy wire job to connect it to your controller.  Look in your glove box
for the wire harness.
