87 Nisan 4x4

Hi, I am looking to buy this 87 Nisan 4x4. It runs ok, seems in good shape.
However, there is a "clicking" in the top end. I had a 87 toyota that made
the same sound, just noisy lifter, but it ran great, so I am wondering if
this is 'normal" for the Nisan as well. Also, the owner said it only gets
about 18mpg on the highway, this doesn't sound right at all, there appears
to be no blow-by so I am wondering if that is par for the Nisan. Any help
on this appreciated.

If it's the 2.4L engine, that's just a noisy, clattery engine. It will go
for a long time though! I bought my '86 with 50K miles on it and the head
gasket just let go at 170K miles...

That engine has mechanical lifters, which need adjustment around once a
year-most people forget about that at tune-up time...might not have been
done in a while, causing the noise you hear. As far as mileage goes, that is
probably the best you will get out of it at that age.

Did you buy it? I recently purchased a 86, and that is what I get for MPG.
Kinda disappointed for being a small truck.
