I have a Grand Cherokee with an automatic it shifts just fine till all the
fluids get to running temp then you lose first gear when starting out from
a red light. But if you shut it off for 10 mim it works just fine till
everything heats up again.

Any ideas ????

I would put some Lucas Transmission Stop Leak in it.  It stopped my '91
Explorer from slipping.  It might not help in your case but it'll only cost
a few bucks to find out.  Also make sure your level is correct.  And check
for vacuum leaks and transmission fluid on your vacuum connections.
