how do i wire a relay for some spot lamps?

Run a heavy wire from a good battery feed to both the top of the relay
coil and the relay main contact.  Then run another medium wire from the
ground side of the coil to whatever control switch you are adding.  Then
run a heavy wire from the normal open contact of the relay to the
light(s) and then ground each light.
