Actually i just checked it and it's fine now. Resistor going bad?

They use a control module to control speed. You might check connector
on it. My wifes Cherokee only has 3 speed, 1,2 ,& 4 for a while now
and i need to tear into it some time to fix it. It has been reliable
at 3 speeds for some time now.

That implies the connection on the back of the switch has vibrated
loose. The resistor pack runs the low speeds only. This will likely
overheat and smoke out the switch, sooner than later. It is fairly
common, I think the harness needs a zip tie or something to hold it tight.
New switches are available without buying the whole cluster if you need
it, you just need to get the parts guy to dig for it.
There are other places a bad connection can happen, ours went dead at
the first plug from the motor under the hood. I bypassed the bad
connection.
