Can anyone offer advice or help. We bought a P reg 2.5dse RR last year. It
has been a nightmare with so much going wrong. The latest thing is the
main computer. We have been quoted £1000 to replace. Does anyone know
whether the computer can be fixed or do we need to buy a new one.

I don't know your vehicle, but when tons of strange things happen and
the computer is also having fits, the ground path to the body and engine
are usually suspect.  A bad main ground can cause lots of weird things
to happen.

There are usually places that sell rebuilt computers for a couple
hundred dollars or even the wrecker has them cheap usually.  Normally
you have to match some numbers up though.

I agree with Mike Romain and would add only one "wrinkle."  The transmission
(often aluminum) is bolted to the engine block (often cast iron) with
hardened steel bolts.  The difference in the metalurgy can cause
electrolosys which won't deter the physical connection, but may deter the
electrical connection to ground that the computer (at least that of the
transmission) needs.  You might try running ground wires from both the
transmissioin and the engine block to a good chassis ground that is common
with the battery ground (that is the negative post, at least in the USA).

I don't know what a "P reg 2.5dse" is, but I can tell you you'll have
much better luck if you actually bother to mention what the problem is.
Computers can often be repaired, but some times it's cheaper to
just replace them. Having no idea what is wrong with the computer, or
why you even think something is wrong with the computer, I doubt anyone
can tell you much more than that.
