Land Rover Disco question

I have a 2000 Disco II, I had ther dealer replace the brakes in March
on all four wheels. The brake light went "on" on my dash.

I brought in the car and the dealer is tells me that I need new rear
brakes and rotors. The fronts are OK. I have put 10,000 miles on thr
car since March.

My suspicion is that the parking brake, which I never use, somehow
failed and clamped on the rears ruining the pads and the rotors. Could
this be true? Or is it normal to only expect 10,000 miles on rear
brakes. I would thinkt the fronts would have gone before the rears.

Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated. Thanks

Thats not a lot - they typically last 100,000 miles even when used in dirty
conditions.

It's definitely not the 'parking brake' as on Land Rovers you have a
separate brake drum which acts on the transmission, not on any of the front
or rear discs. Don't try pulling on the parking brake while moving or your
driveshafts will go *BANG*!

It is either incorrect fitting or defective brake discs (I think you call
them rotors!) unless you regularly lower your boat into the sea and dip the
rear end of your Disco with it!

Brake light on usually means simply that the parking brake cable is
rusty and hasn't fully retracted. I would ask for all those old parts
back if they replace anything on your brakes. It's damn near impossible
for rear brakes to wear out before front brakes under normal
circumstances.
