My wife and I just purchased '04 Toyota 4Runner Sport Edition (great
vehicle).   Unfortunately, DVD navigation is available only on the
Limited.  We are considering add aftermarket DVD navigation system.

Any suggestions and experiences?

These installed systems are extremely expensive. A GPS receiver and a
laptop, with a pedestal desk mount, will give you the same features but with
a larger screen and all the versatility and functions of a computer. The
only downside is that it is bulky and needs to be set up and removed when
you want to use it. Another route is to go with a GPS receiver and a PDA
which can be mounted on a variety of holders. This will most likely have a
smaller screen than a factory navigation system but will be cheaper and more
versatile.

Do you really need a DVD system? I have a Garmain 2610 Street Pilot and
it works great. You can load maps from a laptop or a desktop and you can
move it from vehicle to vehicle. It works at least as well as the DVD
system in my ex's MDX. The 2650 even has dead reckoning abilities if you
have it wired into the vehicle.
