I see that the new Accord v6 is really fast like the Acura TL too.  Is the TL
pretty much an upgraded version of the Accord?

Being a Lexus ES300 owner, I am familiar with platform sharing as mine is Camry
based. At first I thought the ES300 was pretty mych a v6 Camry with minor
changes, but I came to realize that it's really a different car since most
parts have been upgraded in the Lexus.  Same story for thr TL?

Thanks

Different engine, different skin, but otherwise the TL is pretty much a
flushed out Accord.
kbstreet - 15 Jun 2004 03:49 GMT
They come from the same platform, but other than that, they are completely
different.  I just traded in an '04 Accord V-6 for a TL w/ NAVI & there is
no difference between the 2.

Bigger engine, auto stick trans, memory system, perforated leather interior,
17" wheels, Bluetooth technology, much better stereo, etc., etc.

There is no comparison!!!

Huh?  First you say, "there is no difference between the 2", and then you
say, "there is no comparison"!  Which is it, I'm confused!  ;-)

He ment no comparaison.
kbstreet - 16 Jun 2004 03:30 GMT
I meant there is no comparison.  The TL blows the Accord away.

I can truly appreciate the enthusiasm for the TL, but is there really that
much difference between the 2 cars?  There was an article in the local paper
saying that the handling of the new TL leaves a lot to be desired.  Seems
with the higher HP engine this year, that they've numbed the steering to
correct the torque steer problem.  It leaves the car with a wandering, vague
feel on the highway.  Hard to keep it in a straight line down the road, many
minor corrections to the steering wheel.  Something to do with dampening the
steering of the higher HP model in '04.  Is there any truth to this, I
haven't seen anything about it on this newsgroup.  Just
wondering............ ;-)

My '04 TL doesn't do any of that.  It doesn't feel vague, or wander all over
the road.  In fact, it's one of the more precise steering systems I've ever
used.

Well, maybe the guy doing the road test just doesn't like the new TL??
Probably a Lexus man......! :)

I've had my TL for 3 weeks now & have over 2000 miles on it, almost all
highway.  It handles great, better than the Accord.

I've heard a lot about "torque steer" but I gues the ones complaining about
that are the same idiots who drive 85 in heavy traffic switching from the
left lane to the right lane in a 4 lane highway during rush hour???

Torque steer is the tendency of a front wheel drive car to pull to one side
when you bury your accelerator foot in the front bumper.  It only happens
during heavy acceleration.  The people complaining about it are the ones who
think the pedal is a binary device (only two positions: all the way up and
all the way down).

I have had my 04 TL for 3 months now trading in 02 Max GL. I can say nothing
but good about the TL, far superior to the Maxima. No problem with handling,
I agree with those that suggest anyone complaining of torque steer is doing
so because they are simply a peddle to the metal driver. Control is
excellent, interior can't be beat, plenty of power, great features.

I also looked at and drove Accord V 6 before deciding on going ahead with
the TL, in fact wife may get one to replace her 02 Altima. Nice car but the
TL is quite different in quiet ride, interior, features and such. I could
live awith an Accord V6 if I had to, BUT, I don't have to so my preference
is the TL. Hoping to be as impressed with the new RL in 06 when my next
normal trade usually occurs.

I didn't get nav for a couple of reasons. Dealer only had 2 at the time both
stick ( wife wouldn't be able to drive if needed plus sticks in quiet cars
seem pointless to me ) but had numerous TL's without nav. Have no real need
for nav, I know how to get to my bar from here, know how to get to casino
from here :) . Were no deals on nav's at time because they were hard to get.
Additional cost would not be of value to trade in 2 years, by then would bet
many more cars will come with nav as standard feature. Too bad Acura didn't
set car up for an easy factory style add on after the fact by providing wire
harness and so forth should you change your mind.

Call it different or the same, the relationship is similar.

MotorWeek just announced the 2004 Acura TL as the best sport sedan of the
year in their Driver's Choice Awards.  Here's the link:

would be a killer ar if they offered a "no-options TL-S" model. all the nice
features of a TL, but comes with navi, rear wheel drive, and manual 6
trans.

ok, maybe a TL-S A-Spec option to tack on some more $$$. TL-S like this
would be a killer car..
