Close to buying a new tl. One question I have is the nav system. I
have never had one, or even been in a car with a nav system.
What I want to know, is the following.
1) What are the advantages and disadvantages if any, of having the nav
system in the tl, besides the obvious of its intended purpose. I see that
having the nav system enables other things, but I am not sure.
2) Is a nav system, really usefull for its intended purpose? How difficult
is it to use? In other words, in real life, and not for show, is the nav a
usefull, used device?
3) I see the dealers near me, are hardly discounting a tl with nav, but the
ones without are discounted, why is that?
4) Does the nav system, help the resale value , say three years down the
road?
5) O>T. Is the stretching and splitting of the seat leather a real bad
problem, that I am going to encounter?
6) I have been deciding between an infinit g35 awd as opposed to the
acura. The infiniti, definately has a better more controlled ride and a more
aggressive engine, but the acura, beats it out everywhere else. Going from
a awd to a front wheel drive, am I giving up a lot?
I live in a big city and will be using it to commute from a suburb
into the city everyday. We can have a fairly harsh winter, and rain. Should
that be a deciding factor.
Thanks a lot

I have the 2003 TL-S with Navi. Would not buy another car without a nav
system. As I am in my car much of the time, I have found it to be an
indispensible device for getting me to various destinations, restaurants, gas
stations, etc. I use it all the time, if not for routing, at least to have the
map up. I never carry paper maps anymore. However, the database is not as
current in some areas, larger cities yes, but ther eis only so much data you
can put on one DVD.

Mine is not very good in snow, but it is a performance sedan, so poorer tractin
is to be expected. The real problems I have found are going up hill from a
standing start on new snow. Traction control helps some, but it isn't the
greatest. I suppose snow tires would help. Have no problems in rain conditions.

Thanks Walter. To use the nav system, do you need
to stop the card and push in buttons, or is it voice communication? Does it
tell you when to make turns and other info? Sorry, I have not seen a nav
system beforel.

Is it very skittish in the snow? I have a job, where I must
get to work everyday(law enforcement) at all hours of the day. I have an
suv, but I cant drive it to work anymore, as the new location I am working
in can only fits sedans, thus the suv stays home. That is why I am looking
to
purchase a sedan.
Thanks

you'll have no problems in basic snow, it's a front wheel drive. you may opt
to get better tires at some point (michelins). for me i have a 4x4 for
winter, so i may opt to get some better summer tires.
as for navi, well, i'll agree and disagree with having to buy that option.
navi is indeed great, but they now make portable units for alot les $$$. i
got my TL without navi. a portable nav unit can go in any car, etc, so no
matter if it's the wagon or the TL, you can use a nav system.

I have a TL and a Pathfinder, both have the nav. Acura's user interface is
overall much easier to use. One of the better features of the Acura system
is that you don't have to stop the car to push the buttons. Nissan (and
Infiniti) block out most of the controls whenever the car is moving, a "big
brother-ism" that has yet to find a supporter in anyone who has tried to use
the system. If I am going anywhere that is going to require extensive use
of the nav, I always take the Acura.

The OEM tires are the problem here. The Bridgstones that came
with it suck in the snow or rain. I got rid of them fairly
quickly for Michelin Pilot Sport A/S's. VAST improvement in
every way. It's even fairly good in the snow. With the original
tires, it was simply unacceptable -- and unsafe.
