Both models fully loaded, what would be the advantage of getting the
TL over the Accord?

2004 model? The Accord is ugly!

In 1999 we did the same comparison. All it took was
a test drive of each (on the same day, prefferably) to
clearly see how the two differed. TL had much more
comfortable and more luxurious leather seats and other
appointments, TL had a much better engine (3.2 vs 2.5),
TL had sport shift tranny, TL had 4 yr warranty, TL
generally had a higher quality feel to it. And all for
only $1000 more than the Accord.

You see, the Accord dealer started us out at 27500, wayyyy
over msrp for that vehicle (can you say 'haggle'?).
The '99 3.2TL msrp was 28500, and that's all the Acura
delaer wanted. No haggling. We decided after our long
search to get the TL and we have not once regretted
doing it to this day (50,000 miles later). We love our
1999 Acura 3.2TL!

Harry,

I pondered the same question and wound up purchasing the TL. I would imagine
you can get the tech info and make comparisons between suspension, brakes
and such to make an educated decision but I went the old fashioned way
myself. I simply test drove both and although at first glance the TL would
appear to be an Accord dressed up it didn't feel that way. Totally different
driving experience from handling to road noise and cabin feel.

Now over 4 months and 4k miles and still love starting her up and driving
down the road. I buy a new car every two years so not impressed with new
persay. In recent years have had 2000 Toyota Avalon XLS and 2002 Nissan
Maxima GLX. Most years have been a Maxima owner, was not impressed with
Avalon because of small design errors ( like trip computers that reset every
time you turn off key ) and horrible automatic climate control. Always like
Maxima's but recent design changes made me yawn. Went Acura more or less on
whim and recommendation of friend who bought same car I decided to get.
Never been happier at least so far. I have found Acura to be far superior ni
design and feel to both Max and Avalon and I would imagine that would not be
the case with Accord. Accord is of course much less so you must weigh that
as we all do. Not important to me but for those that hold a car you also
pick up additional 1 year warranty on Acura versus Honda which has a value
amount if holding, even when not for resale or trade.

Indeed.  What the heck is the engine block warmer?  I would think a
heating device attached would drain the battery awfully quickly.

An engine block warmer is used in very cold climates to keep the engine oil
liquid over night. You plug it in to an electrical socket.

More horsepower, longer warranty.

Better logo.

Slightly zippier sheet metal.

Lower profile tires.

Needs premium gas.

Better donuts and coffee at dealer.

I tend to the theory that you want the Accord with four cylinders and
if you want six, and can spring another $100/month or so (lease, fuel,
insurance), go for the TL.

Definitely the coffee!

Good grief! Look at them. Drive them. If you can't tell the difference them you
probably deserve the Accord.

The TL offers a lot more
   1. 270 vs 240 HP
   2. Audio system rocks
   3. Rear end doesn't look like J-Lo if you catch my drift
   4. Driving dynamics are much better
   5. Styling

The Accord V6 doesn't seem to have VTEC.

Many folks have given sage advice, however I would suggest two further
ideas:

1) 2 door accord coupe 4 or 6--it is just a lovely clean beautiful vehicle,
and it drives fine
2) Consider the soon to be introduced v6 accord with hybrid gas/electric
system--mid 30 mpg and 255 hp!

I do not think you can go wrong here, the v6 ex is a lovely car, the TL has
some torque steer, but it looks so mean and purposeful, and the inside is
just wonderful.

In either case Honda makes the best navi if you want it.

When you take the test drive close your eyes both idle perfectly, both are
smooth as silk, the extra driving fun of the TL might not be accessible to
you much if you drive in traffic a lot, but the extra luxury is there 24-7.

Price is 27 for the Honda 33 for the TL with no navi in either, automatic
trans.  The hybrid will be around 30 I bet!

When we faced this same decision in 1999, we
couldn't get the dealer to offer us the Accord V6
fully loaded for anything close to MSRP. At the
time, MSRP for the Accord was $26K, but our local
dealer wouldn't offer us anything less than $27.4K.

With Acura, the deal on the 3.2TL was MSRP - take it
or leave it. Well, MSRP on the TL back then
was $28.4K. We couldn't pass up this no-haggle
deal on the TL for $1000 more than the Accord V6!
We never regretted our purchase, we love our TL!
