Re: Acura Integra 94 - I recently switched to a lower grade gas.  Could this
increase my NOX (nitrous oxide) emissions levels?

Thanks in advance.

the higher the octane, the slower the burn, lower octane, faster burn,
possibly could be less complete.
if the car can't take advantage of a higher grade, you're tossing money
away.

My CA emissions test was a borderline pass last time and coming up again in
a few months.
Am I understanding correctly that it might improve my emissions slightly if
I run a tank of higher octane just before and during the next test?

Backwards.  Higher the octane the lower the flashpoint and the more
explosive (quicker)  the burn.  Lower octane, higher flashpoint and less
explosive burn - possibly more emissions.   Emissions have more to do with
the amount of time allowed for the burn to complete in a given compression
cycle and the type of fuel.   Compared to compression-ignition engines (i.e.
diesel) gasoline engines are cleaner .. . and propane/butane/lpg still
cleaner.  The "fuels" the thing!  Make mine Hydrogen!  If you're getting
more NOX have your catalytic converter checked, FI, timing etc.  All
warranteed items I believe . ..
