Will fitting my 2001 TL with 17" wheels make the ride much harsher?
What about 18"? Is the difference in handling worth it?

I put 2 and 2 together and got 22.

Certainly lower profile tires will have stiffer sidewalls and a harsher
ride.(that's where the improvement in handling comes from)

Difference in handling worth it?;depends on how you drive, how you like
rough rides.
It also may mean faster tire wear.

IOW;YMMV.
