Hmm... the server seemed to reject the original post. Trying again...

Thanks Michael:
I also went online and saw there was an equus 3173 code Reader and that it
has some information about reading the codes in a manual which, as fortune
has it, you can dowload for free (legally!).
so I will try that first. Thanks again for pointing me in the right
direction.

Your car does not require a "reader". Natman has the right info.

True - but the manual has all the codes and the location / how-to /
interpretation / reset info he needs. The manual covers a wide range of
Japanese vehicles, and some of them require the jumpers that constitute the
"code reader." Or a short piece of wire.

By the way, Just so I know I understand you guys (and that you understand
me), I am trying to read codes when the SYSTEM CHECK light comes on, NOT
the Engine Check, since it is the sytem check light that is coming on.
Or do I just use the LCD display where the clock is for the system
Check???
If there are no codes to be read for system check, then let me know. Maybe
system check ONLY comes on when you are due for a oil change (I think that
is when my system check light came on, and that is the message that shows
up instead of the clock when I start my car).
And if it IS only for a reminder that I need an oil change, how do I turn
OFF the system check light on my 90 Legend LS? I remember one time I had
an oil change done and the shop didn't know how to turn off the system
check light.
Thanks again,
EZ Mark

Oh... never mind. What is the "system check" about - is that really the
maintenance reminder (in which case there are no codes, just a reset
procedure)? Can anybody clear this up?
But at least we all got the skinny on "check engine" codes! 8^)

That's the one I have! For $35 less (sob).
Thanks!
Thanks Nat_mann;
will try to look for it there and see if I can figure it out.

The 90 Legend (at least my L coupe) has the LED in the same place,
under the carpet in the passenger footwell. You don't need any
jumpers. You do need something to decode what X number of flashes
means. The 909 Legend uses the 2.7 liter 6.
