Stupid question: would the head off a 1988 Integra D16A1 fit a 1987
D16A1 block or they are somehow different? What about the head of a 1990
Integra B18 motor?

I don't think there was a difference in the 87-88 D16. It would be  a
straightfoward swap from one to the other. However a B series head will NOT
fit on a D series block and vice versa
