Just had my '00 TL tranny replaced. The new one has an oil jet kit
installed just like the old one did. Is this still needed? Or did I just
get another tranny with the same defect as the original one?

That is strange! All the trannies I have put in do not have the jet kit on
them. Are you sure they replaced it? Unless the tech put it on the
replacement tranny?? Wont hurt anything may even help.
