FYI ...
My windshield cracked after being hit by something on the freeway.
Replacement cost was $940 including installation and tax.
Beware of the cheap copies. Acura windshield was $744; the copy was $269.
The service manager recommended that I stay away from the imported copies.
I agreed and got the Honda glass.

The Acura service manager recommended that you spend $744 on his
windshield and not $269 on someone else's copy? What a surprise.
And he didn't even tell you what was wrong with the copy, he just said
"stay away from it," did he?
And you agreed with him? And now you're posting "Beware of cheap
copies" messages, without giving any reasons?
Man, what a clueless twat you are. You obviously couldn't get a clue
if you rolled in clue musk and performed the clue mating dance in the
middle of a field full of horny clues at the height of the clue mating
season.

Shouldn't it have simply cost you your glass deductible on your
insurance?

Of course. My cost was just the insurance deductible.
And a note to Dean Dark, I have an IQ of about 150.

"About 150."
Are you guessing? If you'd been properly tested, then you'd have an
exact number. Most people *believe* that they're above average.
And anyway, you could have fooled me with the content of your original
post.
Hold on, I just had a thought - what number base are you working in?

I've taken several IQ tests over my lifetime. My lowest score was 138, my
highest was no missed questions, rating at least a 170, so that's why I said
about. I am an R&D scientist at a large international company working in
optical physics.
How about you? And heckler is hardly a proper answer. I am sure you'll
have plenty of time to answer as you obviously have no friends. Go figure

On Usenet, anyone can claim to be anything. Your assertions about
your occupation, IQ, sexual prowess, or whatever, really have no
meaning. You can *only* be judged by what you write, which in your
case was meaningless and illogical crap.
For someone as supposedly smart as you say you are, it's surprising
that you're not aware of that.
As for me, rest assured that I am intelligent and successful. To say
anything beyond that on Usenet - as you do - is a sign of a newbie who
wants to get into a dick-size war.
Have at it - knock yourself out!

Simply do a search under russell lombardo and you will find several
published papers co-authored by me. I can assure you that I never lie,
unlike the people you are obviously used to dealing with.

You don't understand very much about Usenet, do you?
Simply do a search on my real name (go on, you can work it out quite
easily). Now look at the results. Now tell me what conclusions you
can draw from them with certainty about this particular me.
So why *did* you post meaningless babble - in HTML, no less - in the
first place? What was the point of what you wrote? And why do you
top post? These are not good signs from someone who *claims* to be a
genius.

On the same subject, my windshield on an 06 Accord coupe was struck by a
stone on I 75 a few days ago with the result a small star/crack about 1/2 in
diameter on the driver's side. Is windshield repair effective? Frankly, I
am not that impressed with Honda glass -- it tends to pit after three or so
years.

It's stunningly effective and inexpensive. I heartily recommend the resin
repair.
Get it done immediately. Once the crack starts to spread, the windshield is
unrepairable.

I'm not sure there's any difference in resistance to pits from one maker to
another. They all get frosty given enough miles.
Keep your OEM glass as long as possible.

I drive a lot of freeway miles and as a result, I've had a lot of damaged
or cracked winshields over the years due to rocks kicked up by cars in
front. I've used both OEM and aftermarket replacements. Never noticed a
difference at all, except the price. The aftermarket ones are about 1/4
to 1/3 the price, and they come to your house. Just make sure you get a
good company who does the install correctly. Incorrect installs can
result in leaks. Of course, if insurance in paying, I'd probably go with
the dealer just to be safe. BTW, always double check with your insurance
company regarding your deductible. Some policies have a waiver of the
deductible for broken glass. One of mine did.

That's never a /bad/ decision of course, but it might be a /more expensive/
one depending on your insurance.
I've had many, many aftermarket windshields over the years and have found
no real difference between OEM and aftermarket except for distortion.
My belief is that OEM-branded glass is more rigorously inspected for
optical quality.
Suppliers for aftermarket and OEM are sometimes the same companies. At
least some of Honda's domestically-built vehicles are supplied by PPG. The
aftermarket windshield in my Integra is a PPG item.

My experience is similar except I've not found any flaws in PPG
replacement windshields I've had installed. Cheap Chinese glass is to
be avoided but PPG glass is as high quality as OEM because they are
OEM for lots of brands built in the USA. rll made his dealer happy but
he cost his insurance company a bundle. Yes, rll, you can specify PPG
glass from any reputable company. (Ditto OEM replacement body panels
vs. Chinese knockoffs.)
johngdole@hotmail.com - 27 Jan 2009 06:33 GMT
PPG is an excellent glass/chemical company. They make optical products
for various applications, including windshields for planes. So call up
local PPG authorized installers. Owners can also use Pilkington for
their premium cars.
