The antenna mast on my 94 integra GSR sedan busted. I purchased a
replacement antenna mast on EBAY. It was adverstised as OEM, but I am
having a few problems.
Basically, the mast does not go all the way in. When I put the mast in
and turn off the radio it pulls the mast down, but not all the way. It
is probably like eight inches short of being in all the way. Because
it is not in all the way, when the the radio is turned back on it
pushes the mast out.
So I tried to trick the motor into pulling the mast farther down by
disconnecting the wires to the motor with it as down it would go, and
then turning the radio on, and then turning it back off and then
quickly connecting the motor again-- thinking it would try and pull it
down further, but that did not work-- the motor would only pull down
again for second, and then stop. I guess the logic to control the
motor is in the motor itself, and not somewhere else.
I then compared the repacement mast to the orignal mast, and found
that it is longer than the replacement. The antenna itself is probably
two inches taller, and the cable is seven or eight inches longer (even
accounting for the break in the old mast).
So I have thought about trimming some off the cable from the new mast.
Maybe six or seven inches. Would that be a good idea?
Other than that, how can you get the motor to pull it down farther? I
considered just applying twelve volts to the inputs to try and make it
go down farther, but I am not sure which wire I should power to make
it go down-- or if that would even work given that the control logic
might be internal.
Anybody got any other ideas?
I don't really want to send the mast back. I think it looks close
enough for my purposes.
Thanks for any help

The broken off piece of the old mast cord is still in there taking up space.
The only fix is to take out the motor, open the spool and take out the
broken piece. Once you get it out of there, the new one will go all the way
down.
Don't cut the new cord. It will come off the motor going up and then will
not come down at all without a push.
