TL Tire Replacement Saga Continues ...

Well, Acura agreed to replace my tires (I think), but only with a new set of
the same Brigestone Turanza EL42s.  I tried to get Acura to give me Michelin
or even other Bridgestones to no avail.  Acura has apparently sent a new set
of these clunker tires to my dealer, even though I never made it down for
the dealer service department to determine whether my car 'has' the problem.
I guess I made enough noise that they have little incentive to continue to
frustrate me -- or maybe not.  Read on ...

Then I talked with my salesman and he tried to convince Acura to provide
other tires -- also to no avail.  I then talked with a service advisor and
suggested that he give me the new tires and I try to negotiate a trade up to
preferable tires.  He thought that was a good idea and volunteered to see if
he can negotiate such a trade with local tire dealers he knows.  I agreed to
pay any difference in the tire values and he is checking now to see if he
can make a deal for me.

I was also told that TL customers are requiring a change of tires before
they buy the car and dealers are apparently doing so when requested.  The
Accord comes with Michelins.  Go figure ...

I post again when I have more news.

Can you please give some insight some insight what the issue here. I am
interested in 1 2004 TL, and would
like to know more about the issue. I noticed in the delaership, that the
cars are equipped with Bridgestone.
Is the problem related to the tires or the car. Personally I do not know
much about Bridgestone, and have
never used anything other than Michellin, and plan to negotiate with the
delaer to provide me with Michellin
tires, at no extra charge.

My wife had a 99 Toyota
Solara with Bridgestone tires that were the same type as those on TLs.  She
had 5 flat tires in a year, and of course the Bridgestone Firestone dealers
never gave her anything since they said it was road hazard damage.  She
bought a 2000 TL which came with Michelins.  The TL and Solara had the exact
same size tires.  In 60000 miles of driving, no flat tires with the
Michelin/TL combination.

I would not buy the TL unless they will give you Michelin tires.

The TSX comes with Michelins as it is made in Japan.

I think the Accord comes with Firestone/Bridgestone as it is also made in
Marysville.

My 2004 Accord I4 EX has Michelins MXV4.

Per the Honda page, maybe the DX has Bridgestones.

My dealer (actually Acura) just gave me brand new replacement
Bridgestones (different DOT numbers).  The older tires have known
vibration issues.

Personally, I still think the tires are not that great, but the new
tires no longer have the vibration issue.  My 2002 TL Type S had
Michellin Pilots which were great tires.

Acura definitely skimped on the tires for 2004.
