I have an alfa 2.4 jtd..the performance has dramatically fallen
off,car has
only 40.000 miles, will not deliver full performance, hard to get it to
rev in top gear, running on a light or trailing throttle it?s a bit
better, but put the car under full throttle or load and it?s just as
iff it hits a " Cotton Woll" wall!
Took it on a 6000 mile trip to Spain and it was superb, but now I have
no confidence in passing, have been stuck too many times " out
there" in the overtaking lane with nothing!..any ideas?

Probably the airmassmeter which has broken down. A common problem with all
current diesels.
Had the same thing with my Alfa 166 2.4 JTD. It didn't reach 180 km/h in
sixth gear on a flat road and hardly getting it above 3.000 rpm in any
gear. I couldn't even follow a Toyota Starlet 1.5 Diesel :-)))
Regards.

Sorry if this sounds obvious, but check the pipe from the turbo to the
inlet is securely fastened. Mine came loose and a hole smaller than a
grain of rice made a huge difference (no engine smoothness
accelerating from 2000 to 3000 revs under light throttle and nothing
above 3500 rpm).

Never worry about posting the blindingly obvious here Alex.
Even if it isn't the fix for Denis, it just may be the right tip for
other readers of the thread at a later date.
