I have just bought one an Alfa 2600 sprint based on looks and condition...so
it might be a little late to ask.
Are these cars any good  to drive?. What is the parts availability like ? Is
the engine common to any other model.

Any ideas or suggestions appreciated.

What year is this? The one with 6 cylinder inline engine from the '60s? I
used to have a '62 2600 spider. There were very few of these cars made,
but I suppose that makes them more valuable as collectors items.

I didn't get to drive mine very much. It needed some restoration but I
didn't have time and/or money to do it right. What little I did drive, was
great. BTW, the 2600 spider is the car used in the James Bond spoof
"Casino Royale". The sprint is basically the same, but a hard top?

Parts are going to be a bitch. For example, I remember they had a special
size tire: 400mm rim! I remember reading about someone who cut off the
rims and welded standard 16" rims onto the hubs, so he could find tires.
Beautiful Pininfarina design (or is yours a Zagato?). You'll have to get
really good at trolling the web internationally for parts. You'll have an
easier time than I did: I had to use car club magazines and snail mail.

There's a 2000/2600 registry somewhere on the web these days. Check it
out. If you get in contact with other owners, you can help each other out.

Good luck!

p.s. Any pictures? (don't post them here, but provide links)

A 2600, that's special!!
What chassis nmbr?? (106.02. 82xxxx for left hand drive, 106.09.85xxxx for
right hand drive)
Don't know any of them, but have seen a few.
Presumably (like most Alfa's) all mechanical parts from other/similar models
will do as well.
Best advise is to join one of the classic Alfa clubs.

We (my father and I) have one standing around for years now.
1964, series 1 1/2, full disk brakes, with expansion drum (if that is the
correct technical english for it) and electrical windows.
We were advised to be carefull with spares as these cars where literally
coachbuilt, meaning the metal beaten per car to fit, which can lead the
doors on one care to be several centimeters different in size than on
another car. We bought some sills and a trunk lid from a Belgian guy in our
part of the country and by the looks of it they'll fit.
The car has been taken apart and stripped of paint for restauration but
we're hesitating if we shouldn't start with our GTV6 trackday project in
stead.. at any rate it's way to hot over here to work on anything so we'll
see by fall which candidate gets the vote.

IMHO there are not too many parts in common with other parts, except for the
spider version of course. Btw this is said to be the first effort of
Giorgietto Giugiaro for Bertone and Alfa, and the first Alfa (or car full
stop?) to incorporate the headlights with the radiator grille.

I don't know if anybody mentioned this but an Australian guy named Phill
Storr has an excellent website around a 2600 sprint project. His looked even
worse than ours!
