Hi Guys,

I've a late 2000 156 2.0. 27,000miles.

When i accelerate hard (which is quite a lot!) the handbrake warning
light comes on on the instrument panel. This happens mostly in second
from 3000rpm all the way to 7000. but also occurs in other gears.

It goes off when i shift up or if i take it easy. But whats the point
of ownig an alfa if i'm not gonna drive it enthuastically.

Someone told me this was due to too little brake fluid sloshing around
in the tank but i checked it and its fine. Also would this not cause
it to happen under heavy braking and cornering. (something i'm also
fond of!)

Has anyone else seen this problem?

Any ideas?

Thanks!

On the later models this also flashes up on the infocenter and refers to
brake fluid being low. It is the fluid sloshing around under acceleration so
the sensor detects it is low.

I wouldn't worry - it is just the sensor location rather than actually low
fluid.

Yes, on my 2000 156.

If you overfill the brake fluid reservoir slightly it stops this from
happening. I filled mine a few mm above the max mark on the brake fluid
dipstick and it didn't do it again.

This happened to mine as well, but only when I was going around a right hand
bend. A top-up soon sorted it though.
