147 rear calliper reconditioning

Hi,

Not been around here for a while.

I'm reconditioning the rear callipers on my 147 and I've hit a small
problem.  I can't remove the main piston seals, I've managed to tear
one and I don't want to touch the other until I've more of a clue what
I'm doing.  I think I need to move the piston out a bit more but it's
too stiff to move by hand.  I've tried to pull the handbrake linkage
to move the piston but all this achieves is spurting brake fluid over
the place.

So does anyone have any tips on what I can try next?

Thanks a lot.

Cheers,

Robin

Well, I got the piston out by unscrewing it from its shaft in the
cylinder.  However I'm b***ered if I can get the thing back in again
with its seal.  It's going to be a long night...

I had a very sticky rear caliper on a 156, but managed to get it moving by
dripping break fluid around the piston/seal, applying pressure using a
G-clamp, and simultaniously twisting gently with some mole-grips!!
A bit extreme and time consuming, but got there eventually.
I was only doing this to push the pistons back in far enough to fit new
pads!!
