Belt replacement on a 2.4 JTD

Hi,

My car recently had it 120.000 km service.
Besides the regular maintenance, the garage also replaced the
distribution belt (as I'm from the dutch-speaking part of Belgium, I
don't know if this is the right english word) and the alternator belt.
Both belts needed replacement according to the maintenance scheme
described in the manual.

Parts and work costed me about 600 Euros (TAV 21 % included). Work was
about 100 Euros.

I'm just wondering if this is the normal rate for this kind of work.
First of all in Belgium to have some comparision but info from other
countries is also welcome.

Parts included the "belt", the "fixed belt spanner ???" and a "belt
spanner ???". For the dutch speaking among us, "riem", "vaste
riemspanner" en "riemspanner".

Is this a 156 or a 166?

I'm also from Belgium and driving a 156 2.4 JTD. I have 73.000 km, and the
dealer said replacing the timing belt will be done at 100.000 km.

A lot of the regular readers here are from the UK. Apparently timing belts
are replaced there at 36.000 miles, which is 60.000 km. I expect you'll get
a lot of reponses about how lucky you are the belt didn't break before it
was replaced. I've seen *a lot* of messages about broken belts lately. My
dealers insists of replacing mine at 100.000 km, since that Alfa's policy in
Belgium.

From reading this newsgroup, I understand the price you payed is actually
low compared to regular prices in the UK. I don't know about Belgium (but I
will find out in a year or so).

BTW, where are you located?

Steven,

It's a 166, newly bought and 3 years old next januari.
Mostly highway kilometers at 140 km/h (without being flashed :-) )
between "Tongeren" (where I live) and the triangle "Leuven - Brussel -
Mechelen".

60.000km is for the 16V TS 4-cylinder petrol (benzine) engines!

I think the parts replaced, other than the belts, are the tensioners.
