Interesting. I was loaned a new Alfa GT by the folks at Fiat for several
weeks while I was in Italy last month. I kept hearing the squeaking
sound from the back seat area but was unable to pin it down. Perhaps
that's where it was coming from...

Not just GT's! My 147 (2002) was delivered in the same condition, but
because it didn't rattle I didn't notice until the first time I folded the
seats down and realised they were unsecured. And they could never have been
locked in place because the dealer had to adjust the catches before they
would lock in place!

I was not very happy as the week before I had had two young children in the
back, I shudder to think what could have happened if we'd been involved in a
big accident!

Found this problem, during a hard brake the rear seat moved down.
Solved the problem with a "gently" push! ;)
I had the same problem in my previous car, a 147!
Perhaps there are not always perfect tolerances... but with a hard push
normally the problem is solved.

Noticed the same thing on my GT - although a few hard slams of the seat back
against the catch did eventually make the little red button on the top of
the seat go down to indicate it was locked.

Even more interestingly though (for me at least) I also discovered this when
I was investigating a rattle from the back!

Is yours coming from around the passenger side (RHD) rear parcel shelf area?
Did you ever track it down?

I've practically had the whole rear parcel shelf assembly to bits trying to
figure out where it's coming from without any luck.

If you've silenced your rattle and it was similar to mine I'd be interested
to know what you did to fix it!
