The garage is advising me about changing the cambelt after 60,000 km. I
disagree because the maintenance manual talks about 120,000 km, but they
insist it is because the car is 5 years old, not because the km. What do you
think?

My manual says the same as yours, but in Poland AR recommends changing after
60kkm or every 3 winters.

Just had mine done on a 1.8 of the same year, its done about the same km
as your's. My thoughts were 'better safe than sorry'. Looking at what
came off it looks in pretty good condition, but as the car needed
servicing anyway, and the variator needed doing, I am very pleased I did
it. Rather £300 now than £1500 later !

Change the belt, seriously.
Pistons meets valves is not a pretty thing.

Thanks to all answers. I will change the belt (325 ?), but I feel a bit
disappointed with AR because, if it is good to advise the customer about a
problem before it appears, it is not fair to promise something (long
maintenance periods) that it is not convenient or unrealistic.
Apart from that, I am satisfied with the car, comparing with my previous
Renault 11 Turbo, and Calibra 2.0 16V.

Marketeers and technicians oft don't go very well together....
