Does any one know what the typical Alfa dealer charges for a simple re-set
like this?

Have you tried asking your local independent Alfa specialist if he can reset
it. The one I used reset my engine warning light when I had problems with
the crank position sensor. (He wouldn't tell me how to do it though -
something to do with grounding the correct contact on the ecu).

Can anyone recommend an Independent Alfa Specialist in South Hampshire who
would undertake this?
