Hi,

Could anybody tell me how to test an engine throttle position
sensor (potentiometer) from a 156 1.8 T-Spark engine?
The unit is Bosch, and labelled:
VAL 970052
0 132 008 650

Thanks a lot,
Mark

Throttle position sensor
Note: Incorporated in the throttle control unit
Note: Due to the small size of engine control module (ECM) harness
multi-plug pins it is advisable to use a breakout box

*Checking*

Terminal B13& Earth - Throttle closed - 1.4v approx
Terminal B13& Earth - Throttle fully open - 4.5v approx

1. Ensure ignition is switched off
2. Disconnect the ECM multi-plug
3. Connect breakout box between ECM and harness multi-plug
4. Switch ignition on
5. Operate throttle valve while checking voltage between breakout box
terminal and earth
6. Voltage change should be smooth

*Checking supply voltage*

Terminal B29 & Earth - 5v approx

1. Ensure ignitionn switched off
2. Disconnect ECM multi-plug
3. Connect breakout box to ECM harness multi-plug
4. Switch ignition on
5. Check voltage between breakout box terminal and earth

*Checking earth connection*

Terminal B1 and earth - zero ohms resistance

1. Ensure ignition switched off
2. Disconnect ECM muli-plug
3. Connect breakout box to ECM harness multi-plug
4. Switch ignition on
5. Check resistance between breakout box terminal and earth
