Hi,
I have 2001 Alfa 147 with Connect Nav+. Problem is I bought it second hand
and despite purchasing one of those credit card sim adapters and trying O2
and vodafone sims. I can't get the phone to work - or do anything at all!
When I select the phone option the screen appears and you can type in a
phone number but it doesn't do anything when you try to make the call, also
all of the menu options are greyed out and there is no request for a sim or
pin as shown in the manual.
Also the signal strength icon shows no signal.
I still have the previous owners text messages so it worked once!
Can someone tell me:
Hopefully - how to get it working?
Otherwise - does the signal strength icon so any signal if the sim isn't
inserted? - i.e. is it an aerial problem or a sim problem?
Also - do you have to register with connect to get the phone working or is
that just for traffic alerts etc.
Could it be that the previous owner's sim was on a contract and the
provider 'locked' the phone when the contract expired? - how can I get it
'unlocked'? - tried PUK code but can't get the system to accept it.
Anyone?????

Hi Dave
I have a gta with connect nav + when I bought the car the unit was always
flickering and sometimes it was telling me that I was in Scandinavia while
I was in London
so I had it changed (under warranty ) and now works perfectly.
in my unit the signal strength icon works even if the sim card is not
inserted.
as far as registering is concerned I did not register and the unit works
fine.
like you mentioned that is if you want the traffic alerts or to locate
petrol station, restaurants, etc etc
I doubt that the unit as a lock system, but the best thing is to call your
local dealer for some advice.
also how are you inserting the card adaptor? the card should be inserted so
that sim faces to the right.
Hope this helps
Regards
Nino

Where most mobile phones nowadays are dual band (900/1800Mhz) and some
tri-band (900/1800/1900Mhz for USA/Canada) the mobile phone as such will
always be able to connect to any network.
However, the Connect Nav only works with either a 900 or a 1800Mhz network
(don't know which of the 2)
I'm quite sure this is the cause of your problem.
Just check the frequency of your network and hope you can switch to an
alternative network with the other frequency.
Otherwise you'll have to change provider completely.

Hi,
I have exactly the same problem. It lets me go to the Tel screen,
where all the menu options are greyed out. When i press the Green
connect button, it just says that the option wont work until sim is
inserted or pin code input.
The sim is in correctly, and there is no way of entering a code.
The settings option only allows you to enter your phone number and
choose medical info as Manual or Automatic.
There are some details of a configured sim on this screen aswell.
Does anyone know how to do a master reset of the unit or what the
problem may be?????
