Odd Electrical Problems - Update

Thanks to all who offered advice/commiserations/etc.

Turned out to be a corroded earth strap underneath - probably dislodged
while going over some of the paved-over cart tracks that are laughingly
referred to as 'roads' up here. Unfortunately the battery was u/s as
well, apparently (!) so I coughed up just over a hundred quid for the
whole lot :(
