Hi,

Anyone have a standard 156 radio / cassette from a year 2000 car lurking in
the garage they want to sell?
I'm looking to get rid of the hideous nav system thats been fitted to the
Sele I've just bought and want a stock head unit to go back in.

Thanks...Dave

Don't do it.

SatNav rocks.

Give it time, once you're used to having SatNav you'll wonder how you
ever managed without it.

Bad form.... but if you really want to get rid of the satnav head
unit.... what make / model is it, and how much do you want for it?

You all assume too much! I am a Sat Nav convert, having been using a Garmin
Emap to find my way round Europe in hire cars or on motorcycles for the past
5 / 6 years.. I just don't like the restrictions of the built in unit plus I
don't want to spend £130 on a new routing CD for a system I don't like. I'd
much rather spend the money and replace the Emap with a Garmin Quest, which
is waterproof for the bike too!

The unit in question is a Philips Carin 420 I think, need to check and let
you know full details....

I'm also a DAB radio convert so the plan is to use std head unit with a Revo
to give me DAB...and the Garmin to find out where I am...

Catman,

Is '98 head unit same as std fit 2000 one? If so then I'd be interested..how
much is the question? Not fussed with changer but if you don't want to split
the two then I'd take both. You can mail me at dave@daveplummer.com and if
you can include a picture that would be great.

Many thanks...Dave

My Jan 2000 156 has the Alpine head unit in it, so probably unless they
changed it in 2000.

As a side note, I already have a CD changer linked to it. Is it possible
to link DAB to it too in some way?

Doesn't really matter as the slot and ISO plug are the same anyway.

There's a few places sell changer to line-in adaptors, but you usually
have to junk the changer to use them :-(

Best option is a hand held DAB with a cassette adaptor.

I did wonder about using an FM modulator/transmitter, which would work,
could also be used with iPOD type units too, be completely wireless,
but, from what I can work out, be not entirely legal either.

They're rubbish, don't bother with them.

I've just bought a Revo DAB unit (www.revo.co.uk) which is planned for
install in the 156 once I get the right head unit. In the meantime I've
installed it in my daily transport (Merc Vito) and it works pretty well so
far. I've seen complaints on other sites about poor reception / poor aerial
etc but the std supplied aerial which sticks on the inside of the windscreen
is doing a fine job where I am in the Midlands and also on a recent trip
down south. Its connected either via the CD changer inputs or via the
supplied FM modulator which just plugs into the aerial socket and you tune
into Revo unit on FM. It works for me and with the 2nd car kit will enable
me to have DAB in both vehicles. All in all v happy, could just do with it
being a bit cheaper...

It was changed in late 2000 to Sony equipment (Sept I believe).
