Off to local Desira to get a new undertray fitted on my 156 2.0 - its
hanging off and scrapping along the ground ! Poor thing has never had to
suffer them before.... but its a bit far to Royston just for this.
Surely Desira cant bugger up a simple job like this one.... ;)

I'd have got it up on a pair of axle stands with a bundle of zip-ties
and a cordless drill in my hands.

Well, the took it off and have ordered a replacement. Should I bother
paying the £100 + or just leave it off ?

You'd be better off getting a ali one .... zeatek make them for €147
euros for most models including P&P!. They sit slightly higher, use the
same fittings and don't break on impact with the first sleeping
policeman .... and €147 is approx £100! You'll need to get it fitted
though or diy.

Should you fit one? I'd say yes. It keeps the engine compartment much
cleaner, stops water getting throw up into the engine bay and does
offer some protection on bumps. Now the tray is off you will be able to
see the bridging piece between the engine and gearbox. Actually that
bolts onto an aluminium sump ... whack that and you lose the sump, the
oil and ...... ouch! BTW If you fit the ali undertray, that has to come
off.
