i've got a 5 year old 156 selespeed. It stopped selecting gears a few
months ago and I needed a new gearbox (£1300). this sorted out the
probelm for about 500 miles, then it started missing 2nd gear. had it
recalibrated and all was fine.Recently though, when I put it into 5th
gear, the car feels and behaves normal, but the 5 on the gear indicator
slowly flashes. I've been making a point of not using 5th gear all that
often (pretty easy in london). But once the car has warmed up for say
half an hour it stays in 5th without flashing. ANy idea what is going
on, and whether its safe to use 5th gear?

thanks

I had one of the first Selespeeds and it cut out several times, and
refused to start because the gearbox was flashing an error message. It
couldn’t be pushed either because it was locked in gear. As this
normally happened at busy junctions you can imagine how much I enjoyed
this feature.

I learnt that to reset the gearbox computer you need to disconnect the
battery for 15 minutes. It will then reboot and this usually cleared
my problem. You could try rebooting too.

Alternatively, you could also do what I ultimately had to
do................ sell it.
