Hi,
The passenger side rear window responds to the switch on the door and
on the drivers console, but it will only go down, not up. So I have a
window which is stuck half way down. Living in Scotland, it's a problem
with the amount of rain we get here!
So I've pulled the switches from the door and centre console and they
appear to be in fine condition. Gave the wiring a visual check and it
was in good condition, a few tugs to make sure it wasn't a bad
connection but no difference. So now I'm looking at removing the door
trim and having a closer look.
First, are there any 'gotcha' to removing the door trim? I started last
night but it was too dark to see properly. Does anyone know if I have
to loosed the allen head bolts on the door edge to remove the trim? Or
do I have to remove the little storage compartment to access more
screws? I don't have a manual and ain't that great at doing this sort
of thing without breaking something, so any advice is welcome?!!
If I can get the panel off, what would be my best option to try and get
the window working again? I just want to get the window up, it would be
a bonus to get it working again though. Anyone faced this problem
before? my normal approach would involve a hammer and experimentation -
but I don't think an Alfa would respond all that well ;-)
Any suggestions are appreciated!
Thanks,

Had the same on my 156, posted a message on here and the advice was that
it's all to do with a bimetallic strip that tells the wotsit when the window
is closed. Sometimes - especially in cold weather- the strip acts like it's
in contact with the window and in effect switches it off. Haven't a clue how
to fix it- I've just stopped using my rear windows!

My back windows don't work at all...luckily they don't work in the "up"
position.

I took the door apart and switched the wires round on the window
control switch, which worked, but now the window can only go up! Which
is fine...at least it won't get stuck anywhere else apart from fully
closed. At least the moter is working in both directions. I also tested
the door control swith in the other door, and it worked fine. Don't
know what to try next...
Cheers.
