Hi All,
I need to get a new set of rear tyres for my Alfa 156 2.5 V6.
Currently It has Avon ZV3s on the front and Eagle F1s (don't know which
revision) on the back, which is how it was when I bought it.
I need to replace the rears now, and the fronts probably in the summer,
so want to get 4 matching ones eventually.
I had pretty much decided to go with the Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3, but
now comes the question of size. All the current tyres are 205/55 R16,
but as far as I can gather from the Goodyear website, the Eagle GSD3s
in this size actually use the GSD2 design. So really, three questions:
1. Is this true?
2. What's the difference (should I avoid the GSD2s?)
3. How about going for the 205/50 R16 instead (which appears to be a
true GSD3 design)? I expect I'm going to get shot down for even
suggesting it, especially given that I'll have a few months with
different sizes front v back, but I'm really asking the question.
If all that fails, any particular recommendations? I have the V6 SP3,
so it's quite a hard ride in the first place. Unfortunately I can't
even specify that I do care about some attributes and not others to
help narrow it down - I drive in all conditions that England throws at
me (so snow is not a major worry) and don't fancy changing the things
all the time. I also have an aversion to Michelin. Guess I need a
good all-rounder.
Any thoughts much appreciated!

I have on 156 Selespeed TI Eagle F1 GSD3 in dimension
215 45 17. Before this set of tyres I had GSD2 in same
dimension. Honestly I don't see any difference.
The tyres are great! In all conditions.
