Have been out of UK for over a year, now, and when last there tried
the nifty sportswagon 6 speed, was told by the dealer that Alfa were
bringing out a 450 or 460 bhp engined model.... did this ever happen.

And sad oh so sad, no Alfa dealers in the US - well not offcial ones
anyway. (Wonders if German Models come up to US spec?)

Front wheel drive <LOL>
No it did not happen.
Even the AR race cars don't develop that output :-)

Allegedly a 400bhp 4WD GTA 159 will be launched in 2007 along with a
similarly powered Brera GTA (also in Q4 form of course).

Bear in mind that Alfa WTCC touring cars are limited to 2 litres as
defined by the rules. Less than half the capacity of the Maserati
derived engine touted for the 159, 169 & Brera...

Quite a number of quick road cars produce more power than their race
track touring car variants.

Cheers

Although no road or track car can produce 450+ BHP with FWD <LOL>

Indeed, but all the higher powered Alfa variants will be 4WD (Q4)

With other RWD cars the road going Mercedes "DTM" cabriolet produces
nearly 600bhp compared with the DTM race track variant limited by the
regulations to "just" 470bhp!

Cheers
