Just got a battery for my 156 from Halfords & asked for their £5.00 to fit
service - at the time they couldn't fit me in, so I figured - how hard can
it be? and tried the job myself.

My modest set of tools were not sufficient to get to the bolt securing the
battery clamp at the side of the base, so I called Halfords to book her in
for tomorrow. They tell me that they're not allowed to fit batteries to
156's due to potential further complications!

Am I opening a "can of worms" by getting the right tool for the job (i.e. a
wrench extension) or is a garage / battery fitter a better bet.

It looks so simple but..............  please advise

Thanks

I took a battery out of a TS 156 years ago... I can't remember how but
it didn't strike me as any more fiddly than anything else - otherwise I
would have remembered.  I'm sure I did it with just a socket &/or
spanner set.

Just get a socket set from B&Q or similar.  They tend to cost a little more
at Halfords.  A decent sized kit will have most things you'll need for car
DIY.

I think it's a standard 15mm socket. So get a couple of extensions of
about 10" total and a wrench or t bar.

Thanks All, the securing plate had been compressed by overtightening the
nut - hence no socket could get any purchase - a hammer & a cold chisel
flattened the plate & the new battery is in place!
