Hi, This related to an 'S' reg - Alfa 156 - 2.5 litre V6.
Yesterday I got that 'injector' warning light (in the rev counter display)
and lack of acceleration power. Bit like a towel stuffed in the air inlet! I
assume that this is probably the Air Flow Meter assembly. Fault lasted for
about an hour of driving before getting home.
Is there any way of definitely confirming the MAF is faulty? According to
the newsgroups a diagnostic check won't necessarily indicate that it is.
This morning though it had cleared - although I only drove less than 10
miles. I checked the MAF plug connection which seemed ok.
I would like to cure this problem - any suggestions on how best to proceed.
Anyone know of a good independent garage in Herefordshire (not to be
confused with Hertfordshire!)
Thank you guys. David
hello Dave
I use JDC at Eardisley for servicing (156 GTA).. they used to be Burgoynes,
an old Alfa dealer then switched to Chrysler / Jeep. They've been good with
mine. Try ringing them and ask for Scott. I'm sure he'll be straight about
whether or not he can sort it. Another possibility is the place just outside
Kiddermister. Don't know what it's called, but they are an independent Alfa
service place;;; they also do Lancias and Maserati. It's located on the
Tenbury - Kiddermister road just beyond the turn off for Ludlow. Can't miss
it- big Alfa sign and collection of oldish Alfas and Integrales for sale.
Next to the Duke of William (?) pub. In fact the garage might also be called
that. Owner is "Tank". Met him... he knows what he's talking about but I've
never taken the car there.
Good luck
Steve

Thanks Steve,
I contacted Scott at JDC but they now don't have the appropriate equipment
for Alfa diagnostics. He suggested ACE Motors, Burcott Rd, Hereford. I
telephoned them and they seemed most knowledgeable and have suitable
diagnostic equipment. When I went there this afternoon there were two Alfas
on the forecourt - a good sign.
Anyway, the engine management 'fault' refused to come back again today so we
agreed to postpone delving into the problem. I did mention that I was very
low on fuel at the time that the 'injector' warning light came on and it was
suggested that this may have been a contributing factor.
With an overnight shutdown of the EMS computer it seemed to have rectified
itself. Fingers crossed.
Cheers, David

By coincidence, I was stuck behind one of their vans today and I managed to
scribble down their number. So- you reckon they're OK?

Yes..swap with a known good one and test drive. This is what a main
Alfa dealer will do.

Indeed.

MAFs can become intermittent. Sometimes they can be cleaned though.

Take it to a main dealer..they have reconditioned units and fitting is
a breeze. I don't know (in this particular case) if an independent
will be cheaper..you'd have to get quotes. IIRC, mine was just over
100UKP all up at an Alfa dealer.
