A 2.4, like mine, will have it in the lhs at the front just behind the
'bumper' IIRC. Also, IIRC, its about 2ft off the ground.

I can't say I'm worried at this news as, being from the wettest part
of Scotland, mine has been through some proper flooding in its
lifetime and it hasn't been a problem. This includes a *very* high
speed (dump the clutch, white knuckles and a quick prayer) blast
through a flood which caused my neighbour's car to veer off the road
and roll as well as slow speed work up to about a foot deep.

However, I would not expect a low slung Alfa like mine to be able to
survive much more than about 12 inches of water regardless. 1'6" will
be pushing your luck with many cars.

I'd wonder about the air intake side of the turbo being lunched and
bits of metal compressor blades being sucked in to, possibly, add a
holed piston to the list of wreckage. With the VNT, even at quite low
revs the turbo would have been well spooled up.

I'd maybe want a new engine, turbo and cat (possible thermal shock
damage) depending on the actual findings, if it was mine.
