Hello everyone

Well I've done it and finally jumped in at the deep end!  I've purchased my
first sports car and it's a GTV V6 24v 3.0 Lusso (used).  I test drove it a
couple of weeks ago and should collect it this week.  I can't wait!  Whilst
test driving it, I was foaming at the mouth like a rabid dog!  I can't wait
to get my sweaty mits on it again.  Even better was that my insurance was
only ?270 more than my previous car which was (oh dear!) a Vauxhall.  I
realise the car is going to fleece me fuel-wise but hey, when I test drove
it, it felt awesome and the sound was unreal, although it sounded like the
window was always wound down.  I fell in love with the sound of the GTV, the
looks and the feel of the car.  The interior too was a big seller.  The only
other car I've driven (sports-wise) was a Toyota Supra (L reg) which was
nice (brother-in-laws), but I really love the GTV.  If anyone has any tips
etc, let me know.

Just one point, I keep seeing websites asking for the brown or grey master
key? when buying this car.  Is it important to have this?  Can someone
please clarify, sorry if I sound thick.  Also, I've seen mentions about the
subframe/bushes being worn out.  Is this an expensive job to correct?

--- One foaming soon to be GTV V6 3.0 owner!

I have envy, I fancied a GTV but due to every member of my family having had a
car accident in the last 2 months I needed some transport quick and cheap and
got the 156.

Maybe next time.

Sorry mate, I hope you get the GTV real soon and sorry to hear of all your
family accidents.  We've had a rough time in our household regards accidents
as well - my wife has had 3 this year - all not her fault and all claims
were 50/50 - one young lad smashed into my wife and drove off after I chased
him, leaving about ?2000 worth of damage.  Makes you sick.

I was actually looking at the 156 Selespeed or the V6 2.5 until I saw the
GTV and test drove it.  The 156's are a lovely looking car as well,
beautiful inside.  I hated the GTV to be honest before, but seeing them in
the flesh and test driving them is something else - it really is the sound
they make.  I'm no car enthusiast but after driving it and reading about it
for the past 2 weeks, I know that this car is dirrrrrrty!

Ack! This is exactly how I lost my FIAT X1-9 years ago, some guy wiped me out
then ran off, the police tried to track him but the car was bought at auction
and the numerous empty bottles of Newcastle Brown Ale litering the floor of the
car gave the impression he wouldn't be keen for the cops to track him down.

In a Christina Aguilera way, or in a "Pah, I paid all this money and they didn't
even wash it for me!" way?

It's those gruvy headlights peaking out from their bonnet holes that I love.
That said, I do have more luggage space for having the 156, and I needed the ski
hatch as well.

Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit sniffing glue.

Yeh me too. I saw a Hyundai Coupe with some rather home made looking GTV
style headlight covers. Imitiation is the greatest form of flattery and all
that...

Certainly, in a Christina kind of way.... ;-)

Just out of curiosity, what did you think of the Supra?
I'm a GTV owner going (hopefully, eventually) the other way. Mines only a
2.0 TS though, but my ambition is to have a Supra TT.

Carl

I drove it about 3-4 years ago now - it was an L reg twin turbo and it was
the only other sports car I have driven.  I personally loved it.  It was
huge though, a real beast - a muscle car and man it shifted.  I was only
about 27 when I drove it and I picked my brother up one night whilst taking
him for a spin in it.  It had so much power that I almost lost it pulling
off; it just accelerates so easily and you really feel as though you are
getting pinned to the seats.  Very smooth ride and the interior is fabulous.
I think a lot of them now in the UK are grey imports though.  Very nice
motor, but I don't think they have the same panache now as they once had.
Still wouldn't mind one though but to be honest, but the GTV sounds and
feels as good as if better, but that is my opinion and I haven't had the GTV
yet to really comment fully.

thanks for that Rob! Really put a smile on my face :-) I thought you were
going to make it seem really 80's and outdated (I know they didn't come out
'til like 93 anyway but..).

Interesting what you say about the interior - this is my biggest concern...
hmmm. I have never seen a picture of a Supras' interior that I liked. Toyota
leather is crap and those air-vents are disgusting. I love the Alfa's
Italian style.

Maybe the Supra interior is better in person than I imagine. Just gotta save
those pennies now :-) BMW Z4 2.2SE's are available on contract hire for
about ?250 per month though so I might end up with one of those in January..
If only I could contract hire a Supra :-) My GTV costs ?301 p/m!

cheers
