Hello,
i have a 86 Fiero with a 2.8l engine.
Its leaking more oil everyday, i can`t find the leak, the oil comes from
high up in the engine. I can hear my vavles making more noise also, i
stopped driving in it!!!
Can anyone tell me if this is a common problem or where i should check for
a leak.
Thnx Martin Vos

The O-ring seal on the distributor. Classic for this engine.

The only place for oil to leak under pressure up high on
the engine is the distributor O-ring. A new O-ring from GM
or http://www.rodneydickman.com is only a few dollars, and
they use a special long-lasting fluoroelastomer. Do not
use the O-ring from the auto parts store as they are typically
Buna-N which will fail quickly in this application.
Here's a picture of the O-ring in question:

check the timing chain cover... These are notorious for wearing a tiny
hole in them from the tight specs they had to have. I have fixed about
a half dozen of the same thing... mysterious oil loss.

A common leak is at the distributor shaft O-ring. Oil goes all over the
engine when it leaks at this point. What is important is how much oil is
leaking., in terms of whether oil is seeping or dripping. If it is a very
slow seep of oil such that say a quarter of a quart of oil leaks between
changes, it may not be a problem that even needs to be addressesed.
