Some of you may know that my 84 Indy recently had an over heat problem. I am
having the car serviced professionally by a reputable shop. The engine top
end was disassembled and discoverd the head was warped. The head was
machined -- still in tolerance -- and reinstalled after new gaskets,
rewelding the exhaust manifold, etc. The cylinder walls looked great with no
ridges. This engine is a 79k mile engine. After reassembly the engine starts
fine but is still having overheat problems. I'm wondering if the radiator
should be complety serviced? Any other internal engine items the shop should
be looking at? What am I/we missing here?
Thanks,
Kevin

Lots of things can cause overheating, from clogged radiator,
bad water pump, crimped steel tubes under the rocker panels,
blown head gasket, etc. First thing is to do a visual inspection
of the complete cooling system, especially the steel tubes
that run along the rocker panel. Next when the engine is warming
up see if both radiator hoses get hot at about the same rate.
Does the cooling fan come on at all?
