88 formula v6, hardly ever starts, if on odd occasion it does, it runs fine
unless you let it idle then it stalls out.  generally though, it will not
start, it'll crank, if you give it gas, it'll fire, but it will not start,
has good fuel pressure at the test point, has good spark, haven't checked
compression yet...this thing is pissing me off.

A bad or disconnected MAP sensor can cause this, as can
a faulty TPS. Have you checked for stored trouble codes
yet?

your cold start valve  or the sensor is not working will it start right up

When it's not starting is there a lot of gas from the exhausts?
How's the timing?

Check your Idle air controller.  (IAC).  It may be plugged with junk, or
not responding to inputs from the computer.   Try a can of either
brake cleaner or carb cleaner.

The IAC is a small stepper motor that controls how much air the mixture
gets at idle, and at start.

TPS - Throttle Position Sensor

Another thing you may try is holding the pedal to the floor momentarily
(1-2 sec) while cranking.  This is 'trick' that is programmed into the
computer to clear a 'flooded' condition. You can use it to get more air
to the mixture upon cranking, the computer is programmed to limit fuel
to the injectors with a full TPS position while cranking, so it may be a
hit-miss.
