Well, check for the basics. Pull one of the spark plug
wires loose from the plug and put a used plug into the
wire boot. Hold the plug against a metal part on the
engine and see if there's a spark when someone cranks
the engine. No spark usually means a bad ignition module
inside the distributor.

When you first turn the key to RUN, but don't actually
crank the engine, you should hear the pump run for two
seconds or so. With lots of gas in the tank it may be
hard to hear. Try listening at the filler neck with the
filler cap removed. If you don't hear the pump run at all,
you'll need to see if you can manually jump the pump. That
is easy to do. Remove the cigarette lighter trim plate, this
exposes the ALDL connector behind it. Remove the cigarette
lighter from the console and disconnect the orange wire from
the back of the lighter. Make a jumper wire to connect the
orange wire to the fuel pump test terminal in the ALDL connector:

Turn the key to run and you should hear the pump run. If it does
run this way but not when turning the key to RUN then likely the
fuel pump relay is bad. The relay is located in the engine
compartment just in front of the air cleaner housing, just below
the rear glass on the driver's side. If you have A/C there will
be two relays, they are identical. You can swap the two relays
to see if that fixes the fuel pump issue. Here's the schematic
for the fuel pump power:

If the pump doesn't run and the gauge reads full when it is not, you
might want to check the connector for the cable going to the tank. It
runs down the middle of the firewall in the engine compartment and has a
yellow connector in the middle which could be unplugged, melted, or
burned up due to proximity of exhaust pipe.

Pump isn't too bad, get Delco if you can afford it. Biggest
hassle is getting the tank down since they're typcally full
of fuel when the pump fails.
