I recently replaced the motor of my 85 gt with a new crate 2.8.  I finally
got it back running, but now it wont idle.  I replaced the tps as I was
getting the code for it around 32 mph.  The new motor runs great off idle
and cruising speed.  timing is @ 6 dbtdc (calls for 10 but lugs on comp
strokes too bad to start)  Thinking idle air control but it idled fine b4
when I disc tps.  As far as I can tell all vac hoses and sensors are
connected fine, no err codes from the comp.  Tried reseting the ecm still no
change. anyway to check the iac for proper operation, and any other hint
would be a big help.

I think I can see what's wrong already.

You've not set the timing right.  It'll crank easily at 10*, or even 20*!

Either your balancer has slipped and you're getting the wrong reading for
base timing, or someone didn't jumper the A/B pins while setting the timing.
Those are my best two guesses.

Will check it against tdc of #1 and get back to you But why only idle. It
runs like a scalded cat above 2500 rpms

Plenty of advance will do that!  ;)

When you don't go into diag mode before timing, you're typically adding
30-36* above whatever you've dialed in.

So....  you could be sitting at 42* initial!
