Does anyone know how to get the plastic cover off of the steering
column (with tilt wheel). My ignition quit working and i found the
broken peice. It is a metal lever that moves back and forth as you
turn the key. one end unlocks the steering and the other end goes down
the column and switches the ignition. problem is i have the column in
a million peices and i cant get to the part where the lever switches
the ignition. has anyone ever done this?
thanks
tim

Yes, Unfortunately I have, to get the dimmer rod back in place.
Easiest thing to do is remove the entire column and put in on the
bench. Two bolts (nuts) under the dash, one bolt into the firewall,
and the pinch bolt at the coupler. Disconnect all wires. Not only
can you see everything, but you can also use both hands effectively to
place everything back to gether.

Here's a partial pictorial on the column, is the part in
question visible in it?

If all else fails I charge a flat rate of $20 plus postage,
typically around $15 to return the repaired column to you.
You can get my references at Pennock's Fiero Forum,
