HI,
I have been having a problem with my 87 GT, 5 speed manual. It started
in the fall when the speedo sender gear on the VSS broke on my way home
from work. I lost all speedo readings and on the drive home the service
engine soon light came on. Also when stopping for lights or
round-abouts (little obstacles that we have here in the UK) or even
just taking my foot off the gas when braking to down-shift the car will
stall.
Having spent some time this winter trying to solve this stall I am
still in the same situation.I read the fault code, 24 VSS problem so I
replaced the speedo gear (red one) but this did nothing. On a later
visit to my mechanic I was told that the gear in the transmission that
meshes with the speedo gear was damaged or missing!!!!! But without a
complete rebuild he could not be sure or fix it.
I am now at the stage that the winter is over and I want to drive my
car but once it has warmed up it starts to stall when the clutch goes
in and my foot comes off the gas. Also with no speedo I don't know how
much I am braking the speed limit by.
Does anyone know of a way I can fix this without having to rebuild my
transmission. I have a small digital speedo kit, the kind with a sensor
and magnet, that I can use to get a speedo reading, but I do want to
try and get a signal to the VSS to make it work again or at least fool
it into not stalling my engine on the busy and pathetically small
Scottish roads.
Any help or advise will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Hi Todd,
Not one usually to send someone somewhere else, but lately this
newsgroup has been a bit dead. I recommend you visit Pennock's fiero
forum for an answer. One of the reasons there's not much here is that
everyone is at Pennocks. Also there's a European following so you might
come up with some parts help too.
Good luck.
