Hello -

I have 86 4-clyinder.

I need help. Can someone on this list reply with a diagram/drawing for
the spark plug wire routing to the distributor. I am not sure which
spark plug wire goes to which terminal on the distributor.

Thank you very much for any assistance you can provide.

Firing order is 1.3.4.2
#1 is closest to the water pump

A universal way to find #1 when it's firing is to pull the plug, then crank
the engine until it JUST hit's the compression stroke.  Now crank slowly
until the timing mark comes up to (somewhere) on the timing scale.  Pull the
cap, and see where the rotor is pointing.  That's your #1 lead.

Problem is, if someone put the distributor in at a different spot (what?
someone pulled it out in the last 20 years?!  NoooOOOoooo!!!), then #1 will
show up somewhere else.  Yes, I've had it happen dozens of times with cars
brought to my shop.

Bonus with a 4cyl though - you could randomly stick all the wires on and
give it a crank.  Nothing?  Rotate them all one position to the right.
You've got a 1 in 4 shot of nailing it.  :)
