Nice pic, but it doesn't show the rust. If the cradle is rusted that badly,
you need to look at the frame rails right above and behind the rear wheels.
You may need to pull the inner fender liners to see them. I've seen them
rusted completely through. If this is the case, you need serious structural
repairs, as the cradle may be the only thing holding the rear end of the car
together.

I have an apt with a local gas station next weekend to put the car on their
lift and check it out. I will familiarize myself with the frame rails from
the manual and make sure to inspect as you suggest.

"Eastern" Mass is pretty large. I'm betting you are down-Cape? If
